Located at the north end of du Pont’s home, the Conservatory offered the serenity of a spring day in the garden throughout much of the year. To many Winterthur guests it was the most spectacular place in the house. While a multitude of floral bouquets decorated the interior rooms, Mr. du Pont considered the ambience in the Conservatory as "the main show." House guests gathered here for Bridge and tea surrounded by the kaleidoscopic colors and scents. A house guest recalled one of his favorite views in the 1940s was “the conservatory about five o’clock in the evening…it looks subaqueous in appearance and the scents are so wonderful.” One aspect of the Conservatory that enhances its appeal is the ceiling. The geometric design complements the potted plants and floral bouquets found beneath.

Hickory Chair Company's artists have adapted the design of Winterthur’s the Conservatory ceiling to create this contemporary form. The result is a piece of furniture that is certain to become an important part of today’s living environments that emphasize unparalleled quality and beauty.
