Description

From the mid 1800’s to early 1900’s countless scientists, adventurers and anthropologists explored the American West. These undaunted men mapped new territories, discovered natural wonders that later became National Parks, and chronicled the life of Native Americans living in the region. Thanks to the invention of photography and the large format camera, we now have visual records of this exciting time and the brave people who lived in the American West at the turn of the 20th century.

The tripod of one such camera, the Folmer Graflex camera (1890-1920), inspired the silhouette of this unique styled table pedestal. The camera and hundreds of original dry glass plate negatives are part of the extensive collections at the New Mexico History Museum.
