H. F. du Pont's inspiration for his world-renowned collection of American decorative arts at the Winterthur Museum was an early New England pine dresser whose shelves were filled with pink English transfer-printed dishes. So taken was he with this arrangement when he saw it in the home of his friend Electra Havemeyer Webb that he later commented that it took his breath away. The Webb family presented the dresser to Winterthur in 1961. Executed in ash solids with ash veneers, Hickory Chair has been true to the original dresser in every way except for the selection of durable ash in place of pine. The Base is also available without the Deck and lends itself to a multitude of uses throughout the home. Oxford is the standard finish. Optional finishes available, Heritage White shown.
