Darby Bowfront Chest

Description

The intention behind this piece was to create a smaller, elegant chest for the bedside or sofa side. It is in the style of a very fine but simple Scandinavian Biedermeier case in burled wood, which Thomas O’Brien had admired at auction. To this form he adds a faceted foot from a Scottish Arts and Crafts cabinet – another example of converging interests which produce a blended design. A special decorative feature is the acorn motif of the hardware – delicate acorn key covers over the escutcheons, and newly designed acorn drawer pulls to go with them. The cabinet is interpreted in solid ash with walnut veneer top and drawer faces that results in a subtle two-tone effect. Show in standard Dark Walnut finish.
