Acanthus Cabinet

Description

For the option of an enclosed sideboard cabinet, O’Brien designed this formal case with beautiful ebony and burled walnut inlay, a subtle concave curve to the front, and two adjustable shelves on either side of the center stile. The richly carved feet are based on an acanthus detail from an elaborate Georgian server. Neoclassical bracket hinges and pendant door pulls add ornament and extend the finish detail. Drawn together from such diverse sources, this is a much-studied, invented design; yet, in its intricacy and traditional craft, the cabinet is made to feel as if it is reproduced from a single antique. The Acanthus Cabinet is shown in optional Oxford finish.
