Thomas O'Brien has long wanted to develop more coordinate sizes for certain unique upholstery pieces - - making full use of Hickory Chair’s hand-crafted upholstery capabilities to create more custom looks. This versatile settee is one such piece, a sequel to the popular Eliza chair from my TOB collection. I created the original version of this chair for a New York boutique hotel lobby space, and I’ve always said that it reminds me of American Mission and French Deco design at the same time: an upholstered wood frame chair that sits and acts like a club chair. More than just extending the chair width, the proportions have all been reworked to create longer, harmonious lines and to properly reconfigure the slope of the upholstery. The length of the seat has been carefully configured for use with a round table, and I especially like how the settee works ensuite, in a breakfast room, or even as a pair in a sitting room or smaller living space. I would also use an Eliza settee in combination with one or more of the individual Eliza chairs. This kind of grouping approach lends itself well to a mix of alternating or coordinating fabrics. Shown in optional Dark Walnut trim and standard NL-05 nail head trim with contrasting self tape. A companion chair, 2205-22 Eliza Chair is also available.
