The inspiration for this design comes from a generations-old Japanese lacquered table. Available as a Side Table and also as a Console Table. Thomas O'Brien has always been intrigued by the elegance of Japanese and Chinese furniture, and from the earliest days of his store, Aero, has collected and sold vintage Chinese Modern pieces. This adaptation follows in that tradition, but with a simpler, slender line that I like and which I think makes it even more modern for today. Because the character of this design is both straightforward and elegant, he named the tables for my grandfather, Newton. I chose to fabricate them in ash, a material that he has used as a touchstone in his collections for its casual and modern attributes, as well as its affinity for different styles of finishes. The Side Table is perfect for almost any kind of hand-painted finish, allowing a more decorative, even very ornamental look. He has selected a special version in Weathered French Grey with Solid Ivory striping (shown as 2382-40), while the standard Dark Walnut finish balances modern and traditional interests.
