Among the furnishings collected by du Pont is a Cabriole sofa fashioned in New York City about 1800. The sofa is part of a larger set that includes a matching sofa, a pair of arm chairs, and six side chairs owned by a family in Dutchess County, New York. The graceful design of the sofa is based on Plates 22 and 24 of George Hepplewhite’s Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide printed in 1788.

Hickory Chair Company’s artists have adapted Winterthur’s New York cabriole sofa to create this contemporary form. The result is a piece of furniture that is certain to become an important part of today’s living environments that emphasize unparalleled quality and beauty.
