Among the furnishings collected by du Pont is a Cabriole sofa fashioned in New York City about 1800. The sofa is part of a larger set that includes a matching
sofa, a pair of arm chairs, and six side chairs owned by a family in Dutchess County, New York. The graceful design of the sofa is based on Plates 22 and 24 of George Hepplewhite’s Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide printed in 1788.
Hickory Chair Company’s artists have adapted Winterthur’s New York cabriole sofa to create the Rockford Sofa and its companion Rockford Swivel Chair, Both have a contemporary form. The result is furniture that is certain to become an important part of today’s living environments that emphasize unparalleled quality and beauty.
