In furnishing his home, H. F. du Pont exhibited a fondness for the Federal or early classical-revival style. One such example is a “square” sofa likely purchased by du Pont’s great-uncle Victor Marie in New York City in 1800. By the early 1800s, New York had become an important center for cabinetmaking in America. Furniture forms in this period focused on a two-dimensional look with an emphasis on line, resulting in a sharply geometric appearance.

Hickory Chair Company's artists were inspired by the geometric lines of the du Pont sofa in the design of this contemporary chair. The result is a piece of furniture that is certain to become an important part of today’s living environments that emphasize unparalleled quality and beauty.
