Description

Carefully preserved in the library is the volume American Furniture: The Federal Period by Charles F. Montgomery, the first director of Winterthur Museum. Among the furniture forms highlighted by Montgomery is a unique three-tier stand, or dumbwaiter, made about 1810. According to English cabinetmaker Thomas Sheraton, the dumbwaiter . . . is a useful piece of furniture, to serve in some respects the place of a waiter, whence it is so named.

Hickory Chair Company's artists have adapted the design of the dumbwaiter in the creation of this side table. The result is a piece of furniture that is certain to become an important part of today’s living environments that emphasize unparalleled quality and beauty.
